Compost

Composting refers to a Process whereby organic wastes, including food wastes, paper and yard wastes, decompose naturally, resulting in a product rich in minerals and ideal for gardening and farming as a soil conditioner, mulch, resurfacing material or landfill cover.

What is EcoComp?

A rich dark compost made from a combination of green waste and food scraps which has been shredded and stored for 14 weeks within a 100 cu yd plastic bag with forced air injection system to maintain aerobic conditions within the bag. The material is monitored for temperatures (reaching 135 degrees or more), air flow and moisture.

Applications:
Compost can be used to enrich garden soils before planting. EcoComp can also be used as a mulch to suppress weeds, to keep plant roots cool and moist, to conserve water, to maintain a loose and porous soil surface and to prevent soil from eroding or compacting. Sifted compost can be used to make a rich, loose potting soil for patio planters, houseplants or starting seedlings in flats.
EcoComp is available ONLY at the Buena Vista Landfill.
